Windows Phone marketplace reaches 40,000 apps

There is now over 40,000 apps on Windows Phone marketplace, Microsoft provides a one-tenth of the number of applications that rival, Apple and Google offer to their users.

Microsoft said in a blog post today that content is added to the app store at the rate of 165 items per day. In the last 30 days, 85 percent of the submission of applications and 15 percent of the games, while 68 percent free, 23 per cent and 9 per cent paid paid with a free trial.

The company said 40,189 item has now been published. Of these, 10,882 added in the last 90 days and 4,770 added in last 30 days. This Item submitted by a different Publisher 10,731.

At current growth rates, Microsoft thought that Windows Phone market will reach 50,000 app mark on the second or third week of January 2012.
